"Boys and their toys" is casual term used to exemplify that guys love machines; things that go fast, go far or are just plain "cool". War is serious business, but the "boys" operating the heavy artillery guns were as enamored of their weaponry as they were proud to serve their country. They knew how to calculate trajectories and operated their machines with the utmost expertise. They frequently boasted about their skills and named the implements of their craft with fondness.
