Two Cities

In a span of three months in 1944, two cities in Italy were laid to ruin. While many towns, villages and the countryside in general were heavily damaged by the conflict between the Allied Armies and the German forces, their devastation was comparatively minor compared to San Sebastiano and Monte Cassino. The former from a tremendous force of nature the latter from the destructive force of tons of artillery and bombs.

In what I feel is the best written price by Grandfather, the story of these two cities is inexorable in one case and purely tragic in the second.
